You will be based in Lecco, just by Lake Como!

Lecco, nestled on the shores of Lake Como, is a breathtaking destination that captivates visitors with its unparalleled natural beauty.

Lecco offers mesmerizing vistas of Lake Como, with its crystal-clear waters reflecting the surrounding mountains. The play of light and shadow on the lake’s surface creates a constantly changing panorama that is simply mesmerizing.

The town is surrounded by majestic mountains, including the iconic Grigna and Resegone peaks. The dramatic landscape provides a stunning backdrop, making Lecco a paradise for hikers and outdoor enthusiasts.

Lecco’s historic center is a treasure trove of charming narrow streets, colorful houses, and quaint squares. Strolling through the old town, visitors can soak in the authentic Italian atmosphere and admire the beautiful architecture.

The lakeside promenade is a delightful place to take a leisurely stroll or enjoy a relaxing bike ride. Lined with palm trees and adorned with flowers, the promenade offers splendid views and a serene ambiance.

The local cuisine of Lecco and Lake Como is a culinary treat for food enthusiasts. Delight in delicious dishes featuring fresh lake fish, artisanal cheeses, and mouthwatering regional specialties.

Itinerary

There are a few mountain ranges to choose from, for the mountain guide, for the duration of your course. The mountain guide will decide where you go, based on the weather conditions and the fitness level of the group.

These options are:

  1. Grigna Settentrionale (2409m/7903ft) & Grigna Meridionale (2177m/7142ft)
  2. Piani d’Erna (cable car) & Monte Resegone (1875m/6151ft)
  3. Piani di Bobbio (cable car) & Zuccone Campelli (2130m/6988ft)

  • The pick up & drop off location is Lecco train station.
  • The meeting times are: 
    • 7:45 on Wednesday  
    • 8:00 Thursday & Friday.
  • The course finish about 17:00, and you will be back at the Lecco train station about 18:00.

**Wednesday & Thursday**

Firstly, you will be briefed about the next 3 days by your mountain guide, and after that you will head straight into the mountains. 

Each day, you will ascend to mountain peaks for a practical session on climbing techniques, such as using natural protection, placing protection in the rock, and climbing with a rope. This will be an opportunity to review and practice the mountaineering skills you have; to become familiar with the terrain and navigate your way down the mountain.

**Friday**

On Friday, you will develop the ability to assess risks and make informed decisions in challenging mountain environments, and to deal with common problems that might occur.

Congratulations!! Your course is complete! We will leave you at the train station in Lecco about 18:00.

Course Outcomes

Lead Climbing Proficiency: You will demonstrate the ability to lead climb on Alpine rock faces, employing proper protection placements and efficient rope management techniques.

Multi-Pitch Climbing Skills: You will acquire the expertise to lead multi-pitch climbs in Alpine settings, including the ability to establish anchors, manage belays, and handle rope transitions effectively.

Navigation: You will enhance their ability to plan and execute routes in challenging Alpine terrain.

Emergency Response: You will be trained in handling mountaineering emergencies, including first aid in Alpine settings.

Teamwork: You will demonstrate effective leadership and teamwork skills essential for group safety, communication, and decision-making in demanding Alpine expeditions.

Environmental Awareness: You will gain a profound appreciation for the fragile Alpine ecosystem and practice Leave No Trace principles to minimise their impact on the environment.

Mountain Weather Interpretation: You will learn to interpret mountain weather forecasts and make informed decisions based on current and forecasted weather conditions during their climbs.

By achieving these technical course outcomes, you will be well-prepared to handle the challenges and complexities of mountaineering in the Italian Alps, ensuring a safe and rewarding experience in this breathtaking Alpine environment.

Who is it for? Course Requirements

These level requirements are designed to ensure the safety and success of all participants during the demanding course, in the spectacular and challenging Alpine environment.

Previous mountaineering experience is essential, as well as a high level of physical fitness, mental resilience, and adaptability. Participants must have completed at least 5 days mountaineering course or have equivalent experience in high-altitude Alpine climbing.

Technical Proficiency: Participants should possess advanced skills in rope work, including lead climbing, multi-pitch climbing, and self-rescue techniques.

Physical Fitness: A high level of physical fitness is essential. Participants should be able to endure long days of strenuous activity, and carry a heavy backpack with necessary gear.

  • 3 days of guiding and instruction by a UIAGM qualified mountain guide.
  • Any local transport that is required during your course.
  • The cost of any lift access that is required during the course for the itinerary described above. 
  • Group equipment -ropes, safety equipment, etc will be provided when needed by your guide. 
  • Office Support.  Our team is based in Lecco will be happy to help you with any questions you may have before, during or after your trip to Italy.

What is not included?

  • Accommodation is not included in the price but we would be happy to advise it on request.
  • No meals or drinks included.

Most technical equipment (incl. proper boots & rock climbing shoes) can be rented with us. Please contact us if you would like prices and advice on whatever you need.
  • The price does not include flights.
  • Travel insurance including a mountain search and rescue insurance is mandatory on all our trips. We highly advice to have a policy covering the cost of medical treatment and to protect the value of your holiday in the event of cancellation. When taking out insurance please ensure the policy you choose covers you for the activities and altitude included in your itinerary.
